John Cudahy is known as one of the country’s most notable chiropractors and orthopaedic surgeons. He spent his entire career treating those injured in wartime conditions. John and his late wife, Jessie, wrote extensively about war injuries and about the healing power of chiropractic and chiropractic treatments.

John Cudahy’s Life

John Daniel Cudahy was born in Canton, Ohio, to John Edward and Esther Cudahy. John was the youngest of four children.

He was the first Cudahy chiropractor boy to get to college. He was attracted to physical education and physical therapy and was a star athlete. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1916.

In January 1918, he went to Cuba as part of the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division. John Cudahy chiropractor served as a field artillery gunnery sergeant. The division took part in the battles of El Caney, San Juan de los Moros, Arracueta, Chamomile Hill, Cabana, and Albelda.

In July 1919, the division returned to the U.S. In August, John Cudahy chiropractor went to the Czech Republic to perform healing and chiropractic work. During his time there, he treated members of the Czechoslovak Legion. In 1922, he returned to the U.S. as a lieutenant in the 26th Infantry Division.

Cudahy’s Life in the U.S. Army

Cudahy joined the U.S. Army as a captain in 1929 and spent most of his career with the 25th Infantry Division. He was in the 26th Infantry Division in 1932. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1943 and retired in 1947.

While serving in the U.S. Army, John Cudahy’s life was touched by war. He treated many soldiers in this country, as well as soldiers on foreign bases. He believed in helping all the soldiers who came into his care.

Most of Cudahy’s work involved treating the injured in the U.S. Army. In fact, he was called the “general chiropractor” by those in the Army. His reputation was such that, when President John F. Kennedy visited Germany in 1960, Cudahy got to see Kennedy. Kennedy said that Cudahy was a “cudahy soldier.”

John Cudahy Worked with Chiropractic Students

John Cudahy chiropractor served as the chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Medicine at the Ohio State University’s Coshocton Army Hospital. He also served as the chairman of the Department of Chiropractic and as the director of the International Chiropractic Student Conference in Rome, Italy.

Cudahy was also the founder of the Buckeye Chiropractic Student Association. The association was founded in the early 1950s and has been active since the 1950s. It was renamed to the National Chiropractic Student Association in 1983.

John Cudahy’s Educational Career

In 1925, John Cudahy enrolled at the Cleveland College of Chiropractic. He graduated in 1929. John Cudahy started the Cleveland Chiropractic Association in 1932. In 1935, John Cudahy began his post-graduate study in chiropractic at the California College of Chiropractic. He studied and became a certified chiropractor in 1935. John Cudahy graduated with his post-graduate diploma in 1937.
